Because we live to share, GivHOPE Africa was with the women from Yopougon, one of the 10 neighborhoods in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) on Monday 8 March 2021 for donations on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
The Gouro of Yopougon Siporex market was the place chosen by GivHOPE Africa Focal Point for its first activity on Ivorian ground. After presenting GivHOPE NGO missions and goals and the context of the ceremony, Mr. Franck Dorgelès Kouamé, the local Director of the NGO, gave the reasons for the choice of the site. According to him, the choice of the Gouro market was motivated by the difficult conditions faced by the women who live there: widows on one hand and elderly people with fragile health on the other. These women live in a social precarious situation. In the perspective to make them live decently having at least two meals per day, GivHOPE Africa NGO gave these old women food donations made up of rice, cooking oil and soap.
The young entrepreneurs were not left out, espeially those who saw their activities affected by the covid-19 pandemic. Four youths received financial help of worth 25.000 FCFA each as a test of good management before the beginning of good things.
In her speech, Madame Assamoua Klah, one of the recipients did not hide her joy: “I would want to say thank you to GivHOPE Africa for thinking about us, the women of the Gouro market who live in extreme poor conditions. Every day, to have a meal, it is not easy and to receive a bag of rice with oil and soap is a grand heart touching gesture”
As for the Director of GivHOPE Africa, he congratulated himself to have helped relief these brave women and entrepreneurs sufferings before exhorting them to make good use of these donations as he said: “There is no greater joy than giving to those who can’t do the same and GivHOPE Africa is happy to have put a smile on each face. We are counting on you, Ladies and Gentlemen, to make good use and good management of the food and financial donations you received in order to reduce poverty”.
